Dear visitors, dear friends,
Welcome to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia to the Holy See.
It is an exceptional honor, responsibility and pleasure to represent the country as an ambassador anywhere in the world, and in particularly to be chief of the diplomatic mission to such a prominent and specific member of the international community as the Holy See.
More than a hundred years ago Serbia established diplomatic relations with the Vatican City State (Stato della Città del Vaticano), and it is respected as a reputable and influential international, independent and sovereign entity. The Pope is both sovereign of the Vatican City State and head of the Roman Catholic Church, which governs the Vatican City State as the Holy See (Santa Sede). Therefore the Pontifical diplomacy necessarily encompasses state and church policy and accordingly it is necessary to equally respect both of them.
The stable relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Holy See can contribute significantly in fostering peace, stability and progress in the entire region of the Western Balkans, and in improving the process of European integrations of the Republic of Serbia. The priority guidelines for the Embassy activities will be maintenance and further improvement of the relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Serbia.
In addition to the growth of the political relations I will be eager to contribute to the promotion of cultural, scientific, academic, professional and all other sorts of the bilateral cooperation, both at the institutional and individual level.
The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia at the Holy See in the Vatican will tend to present regularly and faithfully its overall activities at the website.
Ambassador Dr. Sima Avramović
