At the invitation and in the organization of the prestigious international association “Carità politica", the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Holy See, Dr. Sima Avramović, held a lecture "Interreligious Dialogue in Serbia" on October 16 in the Vatican Palace of St. Callistus. Federico Lombardi, president of the Vatican Foundation "Joseph Ratzinger - Benedict the Sixteenth" and the Ambassador of East Timor to the Holy See Chloe Sylvia Tilman Dindo also took part at the meeting. Amb. Avramović explained the historical, cultural and geographical context of interactions of different religions on the territory of Serbia, as well as the development of religious freedom legislation since the first Serbian Constitution of 1835. He profoundly highlighted solutions of the actual Law on Churches and Religious Communities of 2006 as he was a member of the drafting committee. He highlighted important role of leading legal experts belonging to different religions from Italy, Germany, Greece and the USA in all segments of the legislative process. He particularly stressed responsive cooperation with the representatives of seven traditional churches and religious communities in Serbia during the five years long law-drafting procedure, as well as importance of their cooperation in justification of religious education in public schools, as a very solid ground for an intensive and successful interreligious dialogue He revealed and illustrated that sc. Kosovo is the only vulnerable area in terms of religious freedom, particularly due to constant attacks on the Orthodox churches, monasteries, cemeteries and believers since the “Pogrom” of 2004 until today.
