In the Basilica “Santa Maria degli Angelli e dei Martiri” in Rome was held the Funeral Mass for Serbian football player Siniša Mihajlović on December 19, 2022. The solemn Mass was celebrated by, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Bologna and president of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi. The ceremony was followed by the Orthodox funeral rite held by bishop Andrej of Austria and Switzerland of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Also, bishop Andrej led the private funeral ceremony at the Verano Monumental Cemetery in Rome followed by his moving speech. Thousands of people greeted the coffin in front of the Basilica, as well as the day before, when the coffin was exposed in the Campidoglio City Hall. Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Holly See and to the Sovereign Order of Malta Sima Avramović took part in all those events.
