The 18th Congress of Christian Archaeology, which has a tradition of 130 years, was held in Belgrade from September 2-6, 2024. This year it was organized by the Institute of Archaeology from Belgrade, the Pontifical Institute for Christian Archaeology, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade and the National Museum of Serbia. More than 230 distinguished scientists and researchers from thirty countries around the world participated at the Congress.
The opening ceremony was held on September 2 at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The audience was greeted by His Eminence Bishop Nektarije of Jegar, who read the letter of His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, Secretary of the Pontifical Institute Carlo del Oso, who delivered the letter of His Holiness Pope Francis, Minister of Culture in the Government of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selaković, director of the SAIGE project on behalf of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Viktor Nedović, dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology Zoran Ranković, director of the Archaeological Institute Snežana Golubović and rector of the Pontifical Institute of Christian Archaeology Stefan Heid. In addition, the letter of His Excellency Sima Avramović, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Holy See and President of the Honorary Organizing Committee of the 18th Congress of Christian Archaeology, was also read.
